Title: Future Wi-Fi at a Glance

Abstract: Wi-Fi networks have become a commodity such as running water, electricity, and cars. Today Wi-Fi accounts for half of all user traffic. Although this happens almost imperceptibly for most users, without rebranding, as in cellular systems, the Wi-Fi technology is rapidly evolving to satisfy new and ever-increasing requirements. The talk will discuss new amendments to the Wi-Fi standard that have recently been completed or are still under development, as well as new challenges for Wi-Fi developers.

Bio: Evgeny Khorov is the Head of the Wireless Networks Laboratory at the Institute for Information Transmission Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of Telecommunication Systems Lab at Higher School of Economics, and Associate Professor at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technologies. He has led dozens of national and international projects sponsored by academic funds and industry. He is IEEE Senior Member. Being a voting member of IEEE 802.11, he has contributed to the 802.11ax standard and Real-Time Applications TIG with many proposals. He has authored over 100 articles. His main research interests are related to 5G and beyond wireless systems, next-generation Wi-Fi, protocol design, and QoS-aware cross-layer optimization. Evgeny Khorov was a recipient of the Russian Government Award in Science and Technology, several Best Papers Awards, and Scopus Award Russia 2018. Many times Huawei RRC awarded him as the Best Cooperation Project Leader. He gives tutorials and participates in panels at large IEEE events. He chairs TPC of the IEEE GLOBECOM 2018 CA5GS Workshop and IEEE BLACKSEACOM 2019. In 2020 he was awarded as the Editor of the year of Ad Hoc Networks.
