Title: Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces as effective tools for modern wireless communication systems

Speaker: Andrey Sayanskiy, ITMO University

Abstract: Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) are promising and relatively low-cost tools for improving signal propagation in wireless communications. A RIS assists a base station (BS) in optimizing the channel and maximizing its capacity by dynamically manipulating the reflected field. I this talk i focus my attention on demonstration the features of 1-bit RIS as well as synthesis issues of unit-cells geometries. Moreover, I discuss the advantages and drawbacks of various controlling elements used in reflectarrays.

Bio: Andrey Sayanskiy was born in Izhevsk, Russia, in 1987. He received the M.Sc. degree in radio science from St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University, Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 2010, and the Ph.D. degree from ITMO University, Saint Petersburg, in 2019. His current research interests include antennas and microwave devices, computational electromagnetics, and microwave measurements.
