Title: Efficient Multicast Service in 5G Systems

Speaker: Irina Lebedeva, IITP RAS, HSE University

Abstract: Many emerging applications require multicast Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC). Recently published 3GPP Release 17 specifications enable multicast in 5G systems by introducing the multicast hybrid automatic repeat request with various feedback schemes. Although these novelties can be fruitful for multicast URLLC, the specifications do not provide any recommendations on how to use them efficiently. In this seminar I will point out how multicast URLLC differs from traditional broadband wireless communications and provide recommendations on how to satisfy strict multicast URLLC requirements efficiently, i.e., with the low channel resource consumption.

Bio: Irina Lebedeva is a bachelor’s degree student at MIPT in Applied Mathematics and Physics. She started her scientific career in 2021 at the Wireless Networks Laboratory. Her research interests include developing wireless networks, in particular, 5G. Irina’s first research was devoted to multiplexing two types of traffic in a downlink in 5G systems. She proposed several algorithms for relocating power between users belonging to different types of traffic. At the moment, Irina is studying multicast transmissions in 5G systems. The main result of the work is the proposed algorithm for assigning time-frequency resources and selecting MCS, aimed at reducing the amount of channel resources consumed by multicast transmissions, as well as analyzing the performance of this algorithm.
