Huawei Awards IITP RAS for the Best Cooperation Project in 2017

The joint research project of the Institute for Information Transmission Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IITP RAS) and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is evaluated by Huawei RRC as the Best Cooperation Project in 2017. The awards ceremony was collocated with the 4th International Professor’s Day, the annual scientific conference held by Huawei in Moscow.

The project focuses on improving performance in complex scenarios with high number of base stations, smartphones and wide channels, which is very important for both 4G and 5G cellular networks.

In 2016 and 2017 together with Huawei, we designed and studied innovative algorithms for cellular networks and significantly improved network efficiency’, said Dr. Artem Krasilov, Principal Investigator of the project.

It is the second project between Huawei and an IITP RAS team led by Evgeny Khorov. Finished in 2015, the first one also received Best Project Award. Both projects combine fundamental theoretical research and practical developments to achieve excellent performance of the wireless networks.

We hope to continue and extend our fruitful collaboration with Huawei. An important topic for 2018 is a novel architecture for future networks, which opens the door to many innovative features that are incompatible with 4G’, said Dr. Evgeny Khorov, Project Leader.

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is a leader in the global telecommunications equipment market. The company actively invests in scientific research to increase the technological level of products: there are 20 Huawei research centers worldwide, one of which is located in Moscow. The scientific center of the company cooperates with leading academic institutes and universities of Russia.

International Professor’s Day on ICT Algorithm Design is an annual scientific conference held by Huawei in Moscow. It gathers dozens of researchers from Russia, China, EU and other countries. The presentations are typically devoted to the most important challenges in communications, image processing and other hot areas of IT. To underline long-term partnership between Huawei and IITP RAS, the 2017 edition is held in conjunction with IITP RAS.

IITP RAS is widely known in Russia and abroad for its breakthrough fundamental and applied results in telecommunications. Many results are well-known all over the world and have been included in Russian (Soviet) and foreign textbooks in communications. Many algorithms and data transmission methods developed at IITP RAS were implemented by industrial partners in networking equipment and became telecommunication standards.

Wireless Networks Lab is a ‘Megagrant’ lab established in 2017 around the project on Cloudified Wireless Networks for 5G and beyond, led by Prof. Ian F. Akyildiz. The team regularly reports at leading IEEE conferences, runs industrial projects and contributes to standardization of wireless networks.
